WiMAX to be Deployed for Katrina Relief

Intel shipped WiMAX equipment to decommissioned Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio to help provide Internet access and Internet phone service to areas damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The wireless Internet provider group known as Part-15.org is working with the FCC and FEMA to deploy Wi-Fi hotspots to various shelters and areas hit by Katrina. Intel has donated equipment to disaster areas throughout the Gulf Coast, in order to connect these hotspots to the Internet.
